Is Self-Care Selfish?

Prioritizing yourself may sound selfish, but it is beneficial. To be quite blunt, at the end of the day, all we have is ourselves. We wake up and go to sleep as ourselves and nothing can change that. It is important to prioritize yourself and treat yourself kindly. These actions will reflect back positively on your life. I find that when I am hard on myself and don't take time for self-care, I do not see myself in a positive light. When I take time for self-care, I am in a much better state of mind.

One of my favorite forms of self-care is taking myself on a date. Going out to eat by myself or even just going for a drive and getting my favorite coffee is one of my favorite things to do. I find that I am able to become more in tune with myself by being my own company. In turn, I am able to reflect on situations and come up with solutions without having an outside influence. This is beneficial because it allows you to build trust with yourself. When we can trust ourselves, we do not need to rely on other people's opinions. This was life changing for me, as I was once someone who relied on others for validation.

Self-care is not selfish. I cannot recommend taking time for yourself enough.
